Needle in a Haystack
Needle in a Haystack
Pen & Ink on cartridge.
Framed in grey with white mount. 50cm deep x 75cm wide approx.

The 'Political Martyrs Monument' in Old Calton Burial Ground, dedicated to five reformists in the late 18th and 19th centuries, who were found guilty of sedition and transported to Australia, is often mistakenly referred to as Cleopatra's Needle, presumably because of it's obelisk shaped design by Thomas Hamilton. Despite it's prominent position on Calton Hill, on this grey day, it's clean, classical form is almost lost against the higgledy, piggledy backdrop of Edinburgh's Old Town.
